John Logan’s taut, visceral two-hander, "Red," features Latvian-American abstract painter Mark Rothko at the height of his career. Viewed through the lens of his youthful new assistant, Ken, we witness Rothko at the pinnacle of his creativity, but struggling through the creation of a series of large paintings, commissioned as a series intended to feature in New York’s brand-new Four Seasons Restaurant. As Ken and Rothko paint, they challenge each other to ask big questions about art: what it takes to create it and what its role should be in the world. Set in the 1950s, and based on a series of real events, "Red" takes a compelling look at the ever-changing relationship between an artist and his creations.

'The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical'

'The Cher Show'

'Inherit the Wind'

A science teacher in a small Southern town defies the law when he teaches the theory of evolution to his students. His case prompts a renowned fundamentalist politician/lawyer named Matthew Harrison Brady to offer his services as the prosecuting attorney. To combat this, Brady’s idealistic rival, Henry Drummond, arrives in town to defend the teacher and inadvertently ignites a media frenzy. "Inherit the Wind" is a fictionalized account of the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial, which resulted in John T. Scopes‘ conviction for teaching Charles Darwin's theory of evolution to a high school science class, contrary to a Tennessee state law.

'What the Constitution Means to Me'

During its 2019 run on Broadway, "What The Constitution Means to Me" received a tidal wave of critical praise, two Tony Award nominations and ultimately became a Pulitzer finalist. In this smart and timely comedy, Heidi Schreck resurrects her 15-year-old self who traveled the country competing in American Legion speech competitions to save money for college. Unearthing her perspective on the Constitution then and now, she delves into four generations of women in her family and how the founding document shaped their lives.

Boulder Ballet's spring production will deliver an evening of excellence with four works by world-renowned, classically-based choreographers who have shaped how we view ballet today. 'Rent'

Based loosely on Puccini’s "La Boheme," Jonathan Larson’s "Rent" follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. The physical and emotional complications of the disease pervade the lives of Roger, Mimi, Tom and Angel. Maureen deals with her chronic infidelity through performance art; her partner, Joanne, wonders if their relationship is worth the trouble. Benny has sold out his Bohemian ideals in exchange for a hefty income and is on the outs with his former friends. Mark, an aspiring filmmaker, feels like an outsider to life in general. How these young bohemians negotiate their dreams, loves and conflicts provides the narrative thread to this groundbreaking musical. Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical and Pulitzer Prize for Drama. 

'The Emperor's New Clothes'

'Cullud Wattah'

Big-city stars set themselves on a collision course with small-town PTA politicians in this sequin-covered musical comedy. Fresh off a humiliating and high-profile flop, four of Broadway’s brassiest, sassiest stars decide to put themselves back in the spotlight by finding a noble cause to champion. As luck (and social media) would have it, a high school in Indiana has gotten itself into some controversy surrounding its prom. A sweet, courageous young woman wants to take her girlfriend to the dance. But the conservative faculty members and self-righteous parents in the community will stop at nothing to deny the same-sex couple their spin around the dance floor. Enter the quirky Broadway quartet on the rescue, inviting the students to be the kick-ball-change they want to see in the world!

'Broadway’s Next Hit Musical'

Every song is fresh. Every scene is new. Every night is different. It’s all improvised and it’s all funny. "Broadway’s Next Hit Musical" is the only unscripted theatrical awards show. Have you heard of the TONY Awards? Well, "Broadway’s Next Hit Musical" is…The PHONY Awards! Audience members write down made-up song titles and our master improvisers gather these suggestions and present them as “nominated songs” for this coveted award, creating spontaneous scenes and songs filled with dancing, catchy melodies, and tons of laughter. The audience votes for their favorite song and watches as the cast turns that song into a full-blown improvised musical – complete with memorable characters, witty dialogue and plot twists galore.

'Women of Resolution'

"Women of Resolution" weaves the stories of four Colorado women—Ingrid Encalada Latorre, Sandra Lopez, Rosa Sabido and Araceli Velasquez—who took sanctuary to prevent the separation of their families through deportation. Guest readers include Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson and District Attorney Michael Dougherty. Featuring award-winning photos of Joel Dyer and musician Teresita Lozano. This performance of is part of Motus’ event series “There no THEM in U.S.,” a celebration of art and stories that help US in the U.S recognize our shared humanity through powerful personal stories at the intersections between immigrant rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, racial justice and criminal legal reform.

'The Suffragette’s Murder'

On the morning of July 5, 1857, an eclectic group of tenants bustle about their Manhattan boarding house, arranging the final details of a clever scheme they hope to pull off in the name of the budding women’s suffrage movement. As they prepare to host an important secret gathering, they receive an unexpected visit from a constable. One of the tenants has been murdered! The odd bunch must then band together in an elaborate ruse to throw the constable off their scent. His investigation, however, reveals much more than murder motives and rabble-rousing. It becomes an examination of early American suffrage movements, the struggle to define “a woman’s place,” and the political systems that have historically sought to snuff out feminist voices.

'Colorado New Play Summit'

At the Colorado New Play Summit, meet some of theatre’s most ambitious writers while helping them fine-tune their newest works. Listen to play readings by fabulous actors, give your feedback on where you think the story should go, and enjoy two fully produced Theatre Company productions: the world premieres of "The Reservoir" and "The Suffragette’s Murder," both of which were featured readings at the 2023 Summit. 'Little Shop of Horrors'

Feast on the Denver Center’s production of a beloved sci-fi musical that has rocked the globe for generations!   The meek, yet nurturing, Seymour Krelborn is perennially down on his luck. Working at a flower shop on Skid Row, he’s infatuated with his co-worker Audrey, but she is caught in a toxic relationship with a sadistic dentist. One day, Seymour chances upon a strange and mysterious new plant cutting, which he nurses back to health. When he discovers the flytrap’s appetite for human blood, it thrives and begins to sing for its supper. On the eve of the annual Hot Wang Festival in Memphis, Tennessee, Cordell Crutchfield thinks he has finally found a recipe that will land him the coveted title of Hot Wang King. He has assembled a raucous team of sous chefs, comprised of his beau Dwayne and close friends Big Charles and Isom. The four-man team is cooking with plenty of spice and innuendo on prep night until a family emergency thrusts Dwayne’s troubled nephew into the mix. With the crown, prize money, and their relationship on the line, Cordell and Dwayne are forced to reckon with what it means to be a Black man, a father figure and part of a loving family. Winner of the 2021 Pulitzer Prize, "The Hot Wing King" by Katori Hall is a boisterous, in-your-face dramedy guaranteed to leave you salivating for a second helping.
