United for a Stronger Downtown Denver

Ensuring downtown remains safe, inviting and thriving.

Key Programs and Initiatives 

  • A dedicated downtown police unit, including increased patrols by officers on foot, bike, motorcycle, and mounted patrol.
    • In March 2026, funding was approved to maintain the dedicated downtown police unit through 2027 as part of the city’s Downtown Safety Action Plan, with focused coverage around Union Station, the Colorado Convention Center, and 16th Street.
    • Publicly reported results from the downtown safety effort show meaningful progress, including a 55% drop in motor vehicle theft downtown over the past year.
  • 24/7 RTD police presence in lower downtown, Union Station, and transit areas.
  • The Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) program deploys paramedics and mental health clinicians for non-violent emergencies.
  • A shared radio network connects downtown security officers, hotels, and building security teams with police for faster response times.
  • Enhanced city services, including additional infrastructure and cleanliness resources from the Department of Transportation & Infrastructure.
  • Coordinated housing and homelessness response efforts have helped place more than 2,200 individuals in housing.
  • Improved public health support, including Denver Health bicycle paramedics and a Denver Fire Department medical unit.

The "Clean and Safe Downtown Initiative", a collaboration with the Downtown Denver Partnership, includes:

  • Keeping downtown camping-free
  • A rapid response "Clean and Safe" reporting app
  • Denver Ambassadors in yellow vests
  • A 24/7 security team patrolling high traffic areas
  • Expanded surveillance with HALO cameras
  • Visit Denver funds a pair of off-duty police officers outside the Colorado Convention Center for city wide conventions
  • Visit Denver funds a dedicated security officer in the convention corridor
