Amtrak's westbound California Zephyr leaves Denver Union Station every morning en route to Glenwood Springs and beyond. The scenery is spectacular, from the Rocky Mountains to canyon country. Then in Glenwood Springs, you can extend your adventure by catching a bus to Carbondale or Aspen.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has a fleet of purple buses called Bustang. The daily westbound route from Denver to Grand Junction follows Interstate 70 and stops in nine cities, including Frisco, Vail and Glenwood Springs. The comfy buses have Wi-Fi, bathrooms and bike racks.
During ski and snowboard, there's a handy service called Snowstang, which provides service to four ski areas: Loveland Ski Area, Copper Mountain, Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge.
